KEPPEL is off for her new bottom and footings at Roger Fullers Boatyard in Stone. The voyage starts at Etruria at 9.30 and should be at Stone by about 2.30 in the afternoon! WE need crew. If you want to come along please send contact us. Cake may be available!
Andrew and Liz have recently been on a Word Press course. What is Word Press, you ask? Well, it is the software which runs our site. Over the next few weeks, we will be improving and adding to the boat group site, just so long as we can remember all the exciting things we were shown, that is!
Along with Canal & River Trust staff, we took a delegation from the Friends of the Historic Finow Canal, which is in Brandenburg, all the way from Etruria to Festival Park aboard Lindsay. The historic Finow Canal, the oldest locked canal built in Europe, has this interesting boat lift nearby which is not unlike a certain lift in this parish, but somewhat larger! There is a new one about to open which is even bigger apparently. The Friends are looking to open a museum and attract in tourists but are having difficulty getting the local politicians to take on this good idea. They have two historic local barges on offer to them, one, a composite, as an exhibit on the bank and the other as a floating exhibit. Historically, all the barges on the Finow canal were horse drawn, sailed or pulled along by people. It sounds like an interesting project.
